Summary

An orbit is a unit of time used to measure how long it takes for something to occur. Hopfolk have been standardizing the orbits of their world and its stars to track time since before the days of Sop. An orbit is a year on Karrots unless stated otherwise.

Measuring

When compared to fleshy units, and orbit is roughly 10,000,000 of Earth's solar cycles, unless it is a Leap Orbit, which varies, detailed below. This is made to maintain balance as the orbits used made by the source of the unit of measurement are hard to measure with mathematics accurately.

Orbits can be divided in order to be used in fleshy measurements. See the Conversion section below.

History

After Sop's Ascension, the BSA/SA calendar was created for tracking orbits since and before.

Leap Orbit

Sometimes the moon of Karrots moves farther from its planet during an orbit, slowing the speed of revolution, therefore making an inaccurate measurement of time by around 50,000 fleshy hours.

A number of spaceships, scientific data, and carrot growth are used to determine which orbits are Leap Orbits.

Conversion

  • Gorpitus = 10^10^1000 Orbits
  • Leap Orbit = + 3% of an Orbit to 1 Orbit
  • Orbit = Refers to Years on Karrots
  • Microrbit = 1 hour

Relation to Rotations (Days)

All days in Karrot's time are around 10 microrbits.

Leap days are extended by an irrelevant number of milliseconds. This adds up over time, however. Calendars and clocks are adjusted about every .02 Gorpituses due to this fact. All Hoppist Network devices refer to time without the concept of time zones, as time on Karrots is universal due to having more than one star, meaning nights and days function differently throughout the year. Syncs on leap orbits are done once the planet has bisected the stars evenly.
