Amidann Planetary System

Summary

In the Fauxqhey (FO-shey) solar system, Amidann (am-uh-dan) is a terrestrial "planet" appearing a half light-hour away from its star, in an elliptical orbit. It is the lone planet of the star, with no organic life, a light atmosphere, and was once residence to Bop, before and during the Hop Civil War. The system is located nearly 20,000 lightyears (years on Karrots) north-east of the universal equator, when facing rimward.

Before discovery, the star system had one planet with two moons, one of which was Amidann, the other was Pahtt. It was destroyed a meteor impact and the remaining fragments became the star's asteroid belt, forming about half way between the new planet and the star. Amidann flew off to a location nearby, but gravity ensured its orbit stayed around the star. Pahtt, the other moon, tailed Amidann and spun around it until the moon.

The moon Pahtt, was accidentally obliterated by Hop upon dropping out of faster-than-light travel during the Hop Civil War. It's debris joined the asteroid belt around the planet. A Temple of Sop was constructed alone by Hop and Bop at a later time.

Amidann

Atmosphere

There is a thin exosphere of helium, somewhat protecting the surface and lower gases of eejryn ("EEj-rin", also called xenon) in low density, clinging to the surface loosely. Despite its normal properties on other worlds, the gases have little real air between them. Heat from the sunlight of the star easily penetrates the planet, but due to distance and intensity, the planet remains moderately warm when in sunlight, but startling cold at night, since there is no air to contain said heat. It swiftly escapes once the face of the world turns away from the star. At night, much of the surface cracks as it solidifies suddenly, and the eejryn, nearly becomes liquid.

During his time there, Bop collected much eejryn around his home and underground, with solar power, he charged the element to produce light at night. His lights could be seen from as far as the asteroid belt, at a fraction of the density of the local star, but brighter than background starlight.

Terrain

From surface to surface, along the weak magnetic poles, the planet is nearly half a light-hour. Terrestrial, the ground was mostly oxidized iron surface and granite-like underground layer, on the crust of the planet. Mostly featureless and barren, the ground was stable enough to build upon, however constant exposure to the star it orbited caused much of the ground to cool at night and crack upon daybreak. It featured no liquid core, but a thick layer of granite-iron, highly compressed and near melting temperature.

Rotation & Revolution

The planet itself has a slow revolution. Taking nearly its entire semi-orbit to fully rotate, which translates to 4 Earth years per full orbit. This means it experiences vastly longer days than most planets. It is speculated this was caused by the destruction of the original planet that Amidann and Pahtt were the moons of, throwing the spin off severely. The gravity of the nearby asteroid belt also tugs against the elliptical orbit of the planet, when it is within range.

Pahtt

Pahtt was the name of Amidann's moon, which was accidently destroyed and pulverized upon Hop entering the planet's gravitational pull with an Electric Eye in tow. Bop and prior Hoppists recorded little information about the body before it was destroyed. It had nearly no atmosphere, making life almost impossible. Sound could not travel through the thin air, made of mostly nitrogen and yuxfih. The terrain was mostly granite, which was hollow and made it easy to shatter when cold, given the surface was covered with meteors from the solar system's nearby asteroid belt. The moon was roughly a third the size of Amidann. Bop speculated it would be pulled out of orbit and float into the star within 100 local orbits.

Hop claims no responsibility for destroying the moon. The gravity it provided was not very significant to Amidann, therefore it was not a loss worth recovering from, regardless of Bop's initial protest. No resources were collected from the moon debris, which over the course of one orbit, was added to the local asteroid belt due to the angle Hop struck it at, releasing it finally from the planet's own gravity.

History

Pre-War

Eons ago, the planet was discovered among the millions of worlds during The First Great Hop Expansion. The original planet, which Amidann and Pahtt were the moons of, Salligey ("Sua-li-geyh"), was destroyed when a near lightspeed meteor collided with it. The meteor was a result of another former planet, which was consumed by the star, but the planet, being highly volatile, and near in size to the star, exploded violently. The largest fragment of which, unfortunately was in the direction of the solar system's remaining planet, and due to gravity drifted closer to the strongest nearby pull.

Nothing of note occurs since the new formation of the resulting asteroid belt until Bop arrives, after failing to be trained as a Knight of Sop. Partway into his new career as a radio host, Bop looked for a lonely planet with a light atmosphere and suitable solar conditions for his preference. Settling on Amidann due to its size and lack of dependence on its star for his needs, he set up an above and underground home near the equator, giving him a good view of the star, and the occasional eclipse for a brief additional night.

He hosted his radio show, from this undisclosed location, although, scientists under Hop's orders traced the signal back to the planet, using existing gravity well maps and calculated trajectory of all stars in the general area. Bop stayed there through The Endless War for The Eternal Throne and the very brief peace until Sop's Ascension.

The Battle of Amidann

Present Day

The surface is heavily worn and corroded, dust-like iron coats the surface, any wind would blow it away, however, the gases escaped the planet and all that remains traces of previous gases. The interior of the planet that was dug into by Bop is under self sustaining machinery, using sunlight to power itself. It currently upkeeps the radio station and antennas. The Temple of Sop there is small, and hidden in an unnatural valley. The art there is incomplete, it was to tell the universe of how Hop and his father developed Electric Eyes for space travel. Showcasing the planet as an example of how the technology could be retrofitted for other purposes.

The planet is currently drawing nearer to its star, albeit, the star may go supernova before then. If so, the Electric Eye on the planet will shield the world and absorb its energy, flinging the planet toward Bop's last recorded waypoint, where it will orbit a far longer lifespan star to become a museum. Otherwise, the planet's radio will signal for pickup, awaiting larger groups Electric Eyes to send the planet to a star system near Karrots, where it would be live out its existence as a museum as well, but closer to the homeworld.
