Initiate Trials

Summary

The Initiate Trials are what Hop to created to test newcoming Hoppists for their true allegiance to the beliefs of Hop and the rules of Hoppism. These are given as soon as Hop or another high ranking Hoppist feels the Hopling are ready. This is the first of 2 Trials in Hoppism, both of which are required to ascend in rank.

All Hopling Class I's are given this test after if they've enlisted in the GSA, or, if they have studied each day for one torpit. If a being does not live for this period of time normally, one orbit on their own world is offered instead. If lifespan is shorter than that, they are still able to test, but early and be awarded their rank before death. After these requirements are met, the trials will be given out by a Hopficer (or higher rank if available).

History

Since the Hop Civil War, Hop was told there had to be a new way to test loyalty of Hoppists. Gop said a set of Trials at different points in the Hoppist Rank Ladder would be the ideal method to test Hoplings or high up ranks.

Skipping the Trials

Not "all" higher ranks need to pass the trials. Under certain circumstances, Hop can allow ascension of a rank without Sop and Gop's combined consents, if Hop is certain they are worthy. Arritz was once such instance. This is efficient to save time, since some species that choose to be Hoppists do not live long, and Hop sees recognizing their faithfulness as important for morale and promotion of Hoppism.

Grading & Structure

Test Structure

There are multiple tests in the Trials.

The first is a basic multiple choice quiz on Hoppism history. In modern times, this is written in Universal Script and answered using a terminal. Answer keys are made by the test giver and used to see if the Hopling chose correctly.

The other 2 are quick reaction tests, on situations where the Hopling must use Hoppist beliefs to make decisions. These decisions are to see how fast and accurately the Hopling recalls the proper ways to deal with a situation in everyday life. These are subjectively graded.

The final test is a historical film, followed by a short response summary of how the inclusion or implementation of Hoppism would have improved the story in any way. They are given one microrbit to write this. If unable to respond in writing, another form of communication capable of expressing their thoughts can be accepted by the test giver.

Completion

Any member capable of giving the test is allowed to test one Hopling at a time and grade within two microrbits upon the Trials' completion. They alone are to grade and hand the results to the Hopling.

If they pass, a ceremony is held for the achievement, and the Hopling is given a certificate of their choice: a ribbon stripe or a pair of bands for their head or ankles. If they fail, they can try again when their teacher is confident in them, or during recruitment season if they are actively in the GSA.

Hop and all Tier 5-6 ranks oversee the grading at a future time, if needed.
