A depiction of the planet from Sop's memory, painted crudely on parchment.
Artistic depiction of the world, drawn by Vibri after Sop confessed his vision to her and his wife.

Summary

Pilyo is a lone exoplanet in the far reaches of the upper western clusters of the Universe. It drifts along the outer arms of the gravity wells. Due to this, it is not a part of a star system or galaxy. It has history with Hoppism due to Hop's father and a temple on the planet. It was over 34 billion lightyears (years on Karrots) South rimward of the universal equator.

This planet is prohibited from visitors, exploration, study or any form of interaction. Any inadvertent passerby will be motivated to leave by the drones guarding the world. Information about PIlyo beyond this page is only granted on a need-to-know basis, given by Hop directly.

Pilyo

 Atmosphere

The planet's lower atmosphere has a hydrogen, oxygen and argon mix, with traces of sulfur. In the upper half, very dense helium accounts for the majority of atoms present, with little movement, likely held down by gravity and pressure. No severe weather appears to occur, the air swirls gently at a near constant rate, with occasional stills followed by stronger gusts.

The temperature is constant, due to lack of solar light. The heat is sustained by constant gases being cooled by space, then circulating back down to the lukewarm surface.

Terrain

The surface is rolling hills. The soil is very soft and loose, and the lower mantle of the planet is unknown, but speculated to be granite, indicating previous volcanic activity in its past, but tectonic plates appear to have merged and remain very still. The planet does not rotate, only the air circles the world in a repetitive fashion. Wind can pick up loose ground and carry it away, like sand, changing the surface and height of the terrain over time.

Life

While the surface is covered in grass, weeds and carrots, the plant life is not diverse. No trees, flowers, animals or microscopic beings exist. It is warm enough to grow carrots and grass, but occasionally plagued by cold winds and enough darkness to facilitate dew freezing on plants, causing death. It is unknown how light exists on the planet due to the lack of a native star. Plant life should not exist in these conditions.

Currently, there are several drones observe their life cycle and weather behavior, as well as attend to Sop's Temple.

Official Command by Order of Sop

Travel is forbidden. This planet is not to be used as a prison or a shelter for any beings. Sentient or not, organic or not. The plant life is to be left alone. Drones are to survey the planet and transmit encrypted data back to the archives on Karrots. Access to this data is only granted by Hop. Drones are to be unattended and remain on-world forever. All drones are to recharge via ambient light and shall send all information to a distant satellite, which will handoff to the Hoppist Network for archiving. After he ascended, he locked access to the footage away, but left his drones on.

Prehistory

It is suspected it originated from Karrots, after the collision that created it and its moon. This is supported by the fact Pilyo is the sole world to contain naturally growing grass, carrots and weeds exclusive to Karrots, prior to its discovery. The small landmass may have been ejected by the collision of Karrots with its moon. To achieve this, it is assumed it was pinched between the gravity of both stars at the same time, then sent outwardly at an absurdly high speed. Reaching escape velocity, it was sent into the empty space entire between galactic clusters.

Discovery

Like most planets in Hoppist cosmology, it was discovered using gravity maps. A faint but certain pull existed far away from Karrots. This occurred during the first Great Hop Expansion. Sop went to investigate the planet that exist in the Far Dark with an exploration team aboard his ship, The Obsidian Shard.

Encounter

When Sop arrived, his team hesitated to exit the ship with him, as they felt an unexplained fear. Sop felt confident regardless, however decided to explore in an early HHK-44 exosuit, to appease his crew.

On the surface, Sop noticed the ground was very soft and light, and he slightly sunk in due to his weight. Weak rock scattered across the surface coated the entire world like sand. With some effort, he marched forward on any solid ground he could find.

Sop aimlessly stumbled onto a tall, firm hill. He and his suit found no signs of life other than typical plants that exclusive to Karrots. Seeing no threat, he departed from the exosuit and sent it flying back to the Shard, as he went on to collect soil and plant life samples. Within moments, Sop sensed a familiar, powerful presence. He chose to ignore it and rushed to conclude his work.

As he descended from the hill, a powerful mental vision came to Sop's mind. He saw his newly-baptized son across from him, in the valley beneath the hillside, fighting alone against an endless army of powerful beings. Hordes of fleshies and other fluffy races engulfed him violently. The vision ended swiftly but was a powerful impression. Fearful that this was a message from Gop, he had swiftly took his belongings and left the planet.

Construction & Science

During the next orbit, Sop had drones build a special temple on the same hill of his sudden vision so he could return on his Journey and unravel his vision on that hill. Sop ascended before his return, never showing up on Pilyo again. No organics have visited the planet since, excluding the native plant life.

The carrots would be collected on the surface for years to come, although they show no different traits than the standard kind grown on Karrots, they were found to be able to grow on soft and weak soil. They accomplish this by thinning and extending their roots even deeper than normal kinds and slightly curling their leaves. It is unknown how they acquire essential nutrients without a star to draw light from.

Present Day

As of Sop's Ascension, much of the planet is left unobserved, excluding the gravity well and occasion drones gathering and replanting carrots upon its soil. Sop has placed an order to avoid traversing the planet without express purpose to visit the Temple of Sop there.
