Summary
One of the greatest minds of all Hop history, the legendary engineer who could from Karrots, Horduarus-Sho, a descendant of great engineer Ampbersamd-Sho, is a historical figure of great intelligence & skill that was instrumental in Hoppist legacy. Most well known for being one of the few major star ship brands on Karrots, his grandfather Ampersand prior to the first Great Hop Expansion, founded the 3rd and later 4th Mechanic Union. Carrying on his legacy and inspired to help Hops on the planet achieve great things in their first universal voyage, Horduarus founded the Royal Ampbersamd Company (during Sop's uprising as king), and created The Clover, Sop's first star ship.
For years his genius and legacy endured the test of time, inspiring Sop's own son, Hop, to become an engineer, before he traded his hobby for a path to becoming a warrior in the growing conflicts ahead. At this time, Horduarus retired and sought greater challenges. He left Karrots and bestowed Hop & Sop a new, custom ship, The Obsidian Shard. He was never heard from again.
History
Early Life, Mechanic Union
During Sop's uprising, Sho's grandfather, Mister Ampbersamd was a primary founder of the 4th Mechanic's Union. As the society on Karrots changed, he took interest in his job, making the rail system that lines the world's underground tunnels. Sop was helpful in the mapping of the system due to his travels, which his grandfather lead the construction of, making both of them his idols. At the 10th orbit of moment he came into the world, he was learned enough to join the union as a full time worker.
As an apprentice, Horduarus-Sho was hard working and often studied what he built, from the growing rail and satellite systems on the world, to the greater spaceworks of the era. As ships became very prevalent, his focus shifted almost entirely to working on repulsion, levitation and elevation technologies. This was the founding for his interest in starcraft. Space ships, also called star ships, were the inspiration for him to branch off of the Union's work shortly after becoming a foreman. With his higher benefits, he saved up to start his own enterprise where he designed and solo manufactured prototypes for several applications for a very long time. His benefits allowed him to take home unused materials which he built an above ground factory for. He then would construct an observatory atop the roof with the ability to watch his ships from the surface. All this without help, which displayed his impressive ability to rely on himself and his knowledge about numerous subjects.
Often he'd have them on a floating pallet and show them off above ground near the Grand Sop Army Academy. There veterans would get free training and test drives to encourage them to show them off to their superiors.
After enough encouragement, his own supporters presented him a "finalized" ship design, however it was missing space for his newest feat of creation, which was a gravity particle engine. Unlike StarWing Enterprises, who would later use (what is considered) a more advanced mag-pulse engine design, Sho had use gravity generation and manipulation to make use of the energy all around the universe, even present in space. However this required a housing to control where the mass/energy resided, as the engine would convert mass to energy which created propulsion and fueled the gadgets inside the machine, all except the controls.
In order to keep up with demand, and improved his technology, he had freelance engineers and scientists from the open market visit and communicate with him often. With this, he could create an assembly line that
To ensure his factory would have continuous flow, and oversight, he would request help from specialists of the recently defunct 4th Mechanic Union. One day, his early business would even be honored into the military by Sop to be the GSA's primary manufacturer for starships and most other vehicles. He held no official rank, but his contribution was considered authority enough to be highly respected, even by upper tier enlisted.
In the honor of this, he held a toast and ceremony (where he would also unveil his first mass-produced vehicle The Clover) at his factory, where he invited Sop, his own father and grandfather, as well as other engineers and military members. The date for this was to also encourage study of space and exploration of propulsion technology. To inspire this, he drew a crude mural on the ceiling in paint often meant for railway carts that were underground. This simple image, when someone would stare up at it, would instill a sense of escapism and encourage others to seek the stars in the vast expanse of space. Horduarus-Sho held a speech that day, and announced he was founding the company named after his father's father. Not for profit, but in the name of Sop's new Karrots, and the exploration of the great space beyond their world. He would charge carrots for his ship, as he much loved the food and it kept work very fun for him to snack on the job. Sop claimed he would trade for one in the very moment, forever embedding him and his inventions in Hoppist history.
After this, his factory had numerous volunteers lined up to assist him in building ships, learning what he tested and discovered. Sho also several opportunities to be enlisted by competing companies on Karrots, and later, even on other worlds. Most were declined, excluding partnerships with other hop engineers.
