History

Inspiration, The Tale of Arritz

Erected the dawn after the battle, and maintained by the Knights of Sop ever since, The Arritz-Nido Memorial addressed a historical event on the planet R'juko, in the city of Turushim. Arritz, a known soldier in the Grand Sop Army, coming from roughly the same part of Karrots as Hop, Bop and Vibri, left home to save a helpless city of hops, which broadcasted a distress signal. The broadcast showing footage of them failing to resist the rampage of a native being to the planet.

Arriving barely armed and protected, he sent a signal for help mid-flight. However, Arritz arrived prepared, regardless of the perceived firepower needed to handle the beast. The locals named the creature "Nido" (translated from old Hoppish/Hoppese/Hopspeak) as the attack went on, to distinguish it from other creatures that had done the same in the past, allowing arriving help to be aware that this being was unlike others encountered before.

The short brutal conflict when Arritz gained Nido's attention, and trapped parts of the monster's indestructible body into a seal, which was hastily engraved on a home made steel sword belonging to Hop. The weapon's enchantment worked in contrast to the wielder, and as the beast was sealed away with each attack, Arritz and his body were bonded to the sword. A fatal roar echoed from both belligerents, saying the sound was heard across the mountains of the planet every night for the rest of the world's orbit. The sword sealed itself inside its sheath and dropped lifelessly, wrapped with a grass-green ribbon, faintly glowing. Being suddenly so heavy, the sword's weight cracked part of the ground and sunk more buildings and hops into the hole.

Post-Battle

Soon after, Hop's personal division, The 57th "Knight Assault Battalion", led by Hop, landed near the city's south forest. Hop eventually located the sword as his forces cleaned up the debris. bringing the sword to center of the wreckage, Hop began a speech:

"A friend had been lost, but livelihoods have been saved in the process, and future generations on this planet would be spared wrath of the monster. This sword will be under watch of Hop and the Knights of Sop back on Karrots, and a memorial for the fallen homeworlder shall be built before we depart. May Gop protect his spirit and watch over this city. Praise Arritz! Praise Sop! Praise Gop!"

Construction

Shortly after, a granite statue built from memory was made by Hop and his more artistic Knights, showing Arritz running with the sword in his grasp, toward the direction of the city. Knights remained on world to protect from any other beings that attacked or trespassed on the Hoppist City. Hop and the sword returned to his room, where it hung upon the wall for ages, until Arritz was freed. The released Nido was killed by Hop. The original sword, including the ribbon, was placed in the statue's hands permanently. The sword has held by Arritz for a short time, when he was training with Hop, but they decided its usefulness was outweighed by its significance and drawbacks. Arritz was gifted a ceremonial extra lengthy orange ribbon to replace his green one. Arritz is exempt from wearing a pink ribbon if he so chooses and does not need to present proof to authorities.

It is a crime to take the sword or use it for any reason. Images and recreations are permitted however, only within the city limits of Turuhsim. Arritz owns an Athylin recreation of the weapon, without any enchantment.

Location

The memorial is on the planet R'juko, orbiting a lone star on the extreme edge of the Hoalmims Galaxy. The site is recognized as the space around the edge, rimward along the galaxy's equator, travelling rapidly around the outer ends. One day the planet may leave the galaxy's gravitational clutches.

One the surface of the world, the memorial exists within the forest flanking the south of Turushim City. Like the rest of the city, it is above ground, surrounded by trees and mountains. An above ground walkway and underground shaft lead from the site of the battle between Arritz and Nido, downtown, twisting toward the memorial site.
