Uniform Standards

Universal Uniform Code

Regardless of role or branch, during deployment and training, soldiers must have their weapons and rank ribbons on at all times. Some roles wear them on the neck or on the arms and ankles.

Soldiers wear their rank ribbon on the neck. If earned, a veteran may wear their ceremonial ribbon during informal and formal events on base. Otherwise, all members must wear their current rank ribbons in active duty deployments at all times. If lost, stolen or destroyed, a soldier must order a replacement from the GSAA via the Hoppist Network, and later pick it up their barracks' quartermaster. Rank ribbons and uniforms are to be cleaned during each rotation, except during deployments. All ribbons contain a copy of a soldier's tags, containing their name, rank, division and job role.

As of the Endless War for The Eternal Throne, all uniforms have a reserved compartment for a battle camera to record footage as a soldier's shift begins, or as they begin engagement. This is to record enemy tactics and soldier stories for their families, as well as document and archive their role. This is reviewed by volunteers at the GSAA, usually veterans, to give advice to current command, up to Hop or his father, Sop. In some instances prior to the war, exploration teams of the First Great Hop Expansion often used battle cams.

Infantry (Standard)

The standard infantry uniform is a top, connected to a vest system that allows for pouches and features a sleeveless design for ease of movement. Applied by dressing from the top, sliding over the head and pushing arms through the holes, then the magnetic clasps tight the left and right sides of the uniform. In certain roles, the magnets are substituted with a simple top-down tie, to be easily undone at the top, middle and bottom. The back of the uniform features the division emblem, but this is not required, usually painted or drawn on by soldiers in their barracks. Each soldier has two variations of the uniform. Armored/weighted plates are to be inserted into the interior of the vest at the underarms and the back, to weigh a soldier down in case of explosions or powerful kinetic fire, to prevent them from being launched through the air.

A dark green and black pattern for training and formal events, and an all dark grey version that minimizes reflecting light for space/night/dark area operations.

On the waist, above the legs, a war belt is to be wrapped around and tightened to a snug fit. It will clasp to the bottom of the vest, or tied at the sides to it. The kilt below the belt is filled with several slim weighted plates all around the legs, hanging just above the knee. This covers part of the lower body, and the front most part of the kilt has pouch mounts like the upper body vest, allowing for more gear to be worn, such as radios, rations or tools.

Footwear is provided but worn by choice.

Heavy Infantry (Full Assault Roles)

For more intense combat, such as inside enemy lines or against enemy armor, these units wear double density plates and a full kilt, with anklets and padded footwear. In addition to this loadout, they tend to carry heavy weapons, meaning their uniform threads are double stitched with elastic joints to assist in lifting them. Their pouches are now metal cases. They are required to wear helmets with HUDs and wear an additional ribbon on the wrist, ankle, or their weapon.

Heavy loadouts often restrict the ability to fully tuck, roll, crouch or perform stealth movements, however their role is meant to be seen and fight high above their class. This role is meant to gain enemy attention as loudly as possible and own the fight by applying pressure without stopping. Ideally, this allows other roles to retreat, flank, support and recover as this role anchors the battlefield heavily. Ideally, the role goes about the front of the division when deployed in combat, and to enforce this, standard to all heavy loadouts, an energy barrier gadget is part of the uniform and front of the muzzle on their firearm/polearm. These are powerful enough to deflect light kinetic projectiles or soft energy blasts, including fragmentation devices and shrapnel.

Rarely, if available, the HHK-44 exosuit is offered to certain heavy assault roles.

Support Roles

There are several kinds of support roles. Job codes such as vehicle engineer/repairbody, comms specialist, transport surveyor and machine operator (not including exosuits) have access to standard infantry loadouts and are required to wear an additional ribbon on their ankle or wrist for their role.

In addition to the infantry uniform, they have several HUD-equipped pieces of headwear at their disposal, depending on job role or environment. Typical loadouts for support roles can wear:

  • A helmet with pull-down visor
  • A standard set of elastic goggles
  • A facemask with a small glass display

The HUD shows several customize stats and the status of comms on their selected channel(s). With this, they can also manage technology with a small panel on the wrist area of their uniform. Connected devices, such as unmanned vehicles that have lost signal with their controller/operator, or that have their programming malfunctioned, are . These roles often do not plates due to the need to store and transport parts, tools and pieces of the technology they work on with them.

In addition to optional footwear, non-slip and non-stick mittens are provided to support roles to perform their duties in the field, while being able to remove one or both instantly in order to operate a weapon or turret.

Pilots (Air/Space Vehicle Branch)

Uniquely, most ship operating soldiers have their ribbons tied around their arm or ankles, instead of the neck, as most starships sized for a fluffy person are equipped with a retractable visor featuring a HUD that secures at the lower part of their head. Early tests with this system were very effective compared to the additional cost of making helmets that interfaced with the ship, which did exist, but they also found issues with the ribbons, getting snagged during intense combat.

Most pilots must be of a previous job role, such as infantry or support, and been promoted to Hopficer, lower ranks cannot operate vehicles unsupervised except in dire circumstances. Their rank ribbons reflect their ranks and the chip inside is tied to their ship, allowing its weapons systems to activate (also unlocking the cargo system/personal console). If not, the ship can still operate normally but it will not be able to attack unless flown into something.

Their bodies are suited in a tough canvas jacket, with short sleeves, where the ribbons are tied to. The jackets, unlike most uniforms, do not feature magnetic clasps, due to some engine configurations contain mag-pulse engines, which would be thrown off by the presence of magnetic objects inside the vehicle. They are closed with a simple tie/knot, or belt, depending on pilot preference. For operating the instruments inside, before touching controls, all pilots are given standard issue grippy socks and gloves to wear.

Another fixture, usually added to a ship once in military possession, is a harness that connects a pilot's jacket to the seat, for ejecting out of. Often easily detached, with a belt buckle or simple knot, they're equipped for safety.

Crew (Liquidcraft/Spacecraft Roles)

These members do not have any required uniform beyond their ribbon, however it is common for division commanders to give their crew a hat or arm sleeve when on-duty. This is to distinguish them from any rescued non-combatants and easily identify their roles compared to other enlisted members, especially when out of uniform.

The lack of uniform is to assist them with handling numerous instruments on the bridge of a vessel while working. Most arm sleeves are naturally stiff elastic tat curve the arm so that their paws face the console or terminal they are stationed at. This makes it easy for them to instantly make inputs without having to force their arms in position. The sleeves are not tight enough to restrict movement, since a crewmate may need to take over an unsupervised control panel or terminal in the event the bridge is damaged, or take up arms to fight off invaders.
